VEGETARIAN THANKSGIVING AGAIN!
Hannah and I are enjoying our 2nd year of not eating turkey, and Ben's his 1st. John of course never eats turkey. I can't tell you how RIGHT it felt to have our little family sit down together and not have a turkey on the table this Thanksgiving! To make it clear; feeling RIGHT is not at all a "pride thing", where we think everyone should not be eating meat. Our family thinks it is a personal decision, as everything is. Hannah chose this way of eating when she put 2 and 2 together that she was eating all the adorable little animals she connects with so much. Me on the other hand was very nonchallantly handed the book SKINNY BITCH by my sister with a loose "this is a pretty good book". Little did I know that from that very minute my whole eating lifestyle would change. When I read the research and studies in the book on how our meat is raised, prepared, delivered, and displayed in our country I was not able to eat another bite of meat. To this day I hold a grudge against you Debrah because I NEVER GOT A SPLURGE DAY! You know the binge day before you choose to start a diet!! I LOVED cheeseburgers, steak, and chicken anything. I could not even have a splurge day it impacted me so much. While reading this book I also realized how unconscious I had been eating my whole life, and how by thanking my food and being present with each bite is one of the many ways that MY SOUL truly needs to be nourished. TOTAL LIFESTYLE CHANGE. I don't even miss meat!?! It is really weird to me that I would not crave it sometimes. But I feel that by eating this way I am living the true Johanna. yummy.

...SO we tried a Tofurky. YES, a Tofurky.
It looked pretty.

But see these super cheesy smiles?!?

THEY ARE NOT SINCERE!
THE TOFURKY WAS HORRIBLE!!
These two strips are the veggie jerky that comes with the Tofurky as a substitute for the traditional WISHBONE. We fed them to the dogs. We will try something else next year, or just start a new tradition of some sort.

These faces are sincere. These faces are very thankful to share Thanksgiving together no matter what is on the menu.
